Scottish Highlands

When you think of the historic Scottish highlands, we immediately conjure up images from the movie Highlander and the main character Connor Macleod portrayed by actor Christopher Lambert. The beauty of the country side provided the perfect setting for the movie. Now, you can live that adventure and more when you take a trip to the Scottish highlands.

Steeped in history, the Scottish highlands are noticeably different from the lower highlands due to differences in cultural behaviors and history dating back to the late middle ages to today?s modern times. The views of the many different mountain ranges are just a small part of what you can expect to find on a visit to the highlands. Take in the heritage of the highlands by exploring such areas of interest as Dunvegan Castle. Get a taste of the wealth and history of Dunvegan castle, along with its beautifully maintained five acre gardens.

You may also enjoy a visit to the Northwest Highlands Geopark, which is located in the Scottish north mainland. The park has a variety of areas to see and explore including Cape Wrath, which is located on the northerly tip of Scotland and can only be reached by booking passage on a bus. The trip itself is about eleven miles and will provide you with unspoiled views of the surrounding countryside and its inhabitants. You will be able to gaze upon some of the highest cliffs to be found in England.

Sandwood bay which is found in the Eddrachilles, which is another area of the the Northwest Highlands Geopark promises to share its natural wonders with you. See the natural freshwater lochs, and maybe cast a line into the waters there and try to catch a brown trout, and when you?re bored of fishing, talk a long walk down to a sandy beach that measures a mile wide in length.

Explore the wildlife that surrounds you in the highlands. Find an animal reserve such as the Moray Firth and be taken in by its sea life. Make friends with the largest bottlenose dolphins in the world, and maybe you can catch a glimpse of a harbor porpoise or possibly a whale such as the Minke Whale
