Manchester

Way back during the roman days the area now known as Manchester, England was used as a fort for the Roman general Agricola. It was a time of conquest and this area housed the soldiers and other Romans who had followed them. However over time the popularity of the area changed and by as late as the 6th century this area was abandoned. Many centuries went by without settlers until its reemergence of settlers and the establishment of trade to the area with a renewed interest and build up of the area in the 14th century. The 14th century Manchester saw an interest in wool and linen primarily and then during the 15th century it became the site of a church and training local for new priests to develop.

As time went by Manchester became what is believed to be the home of the first industrial society. It also became the center of social and political unrest during the 19th and 20th centuries, which includes the struggle for the womens right to vote. This struggle for political rights included an incident in august of 1819 that resulted in many deaths and injuries and it was given the name of Peterloo.

Today Manchester, England has become a tourist attraction especially for those who are fans of the national sport of Soccer and their team Manchester United. That is why one of the many things to do in Manchester is take a tour of the teams stadium and all that is involved with them including their trophies. There are many museums and art galleries as well as parks and elaborate gardens available to explore and enjoy when visiting Manchester.

The galleries of interest when visiting include a Gallery of Costume that houses an incredible abundant collection of clothing and accessories in England. Another impressive location is the Imperial War Museum North housing an abundance of military and an impressive display of 20th century conflict that is very educational. There are numerous locations for shopping opportunities and many grand eating establishments to please every pallet.
