When one thinks of Kent it is impossible not to think about Canterbury. Of course this is the town that Geoffrey Chaucer based his famous Canterbury Tales on, and thus it has become a very famous town. This beautiful town has much to offer the traveler, as it is very historical and quite beautiful.
There are many different attractions that should not be missed. The ruins of the Norman Castle should definitely be visited. This castle is over 800 years old, and the ruins are quite stunning.
There are many other historical buildings that should be taken in. The Canterbury Tales museum, Saint Augustine’s Abbey and Canterbury’s cathedral are among the many. There are also many different farms and vineyards where you can see how juices and wines are made.
For a more relaxing time, there are trails that circle the whole city, for biking and/or walking. Also, Blean Woods is an excellent place for a hike. This ancient forest is a Local Nature Reserve, which means that you can see undisturbed nature in all its’ glory. There are many wonderful trails through the forest, one which leads to the city and ends at the beautiful Westgate Gardens.
There are tons of opportunities outside the city if you feel like getting away for a moment. There is a cool ghost tour (probably not for the kids) that lends an air of mystery to the Old City. Also, the Canterbury Historic River Tours are quite stunning, and give you the chance to learn all about the history of the area. These tours can be taken during the day or at night. The night tour is especially cool.
There is tons to do around Kent, and especially Canterbury. You will not be disappointed if you visit this peaceful and beautiful area. No matter yourt age or your preferences, there will be something of interest for you in Kent.
