Dorset

Dorset is a beautiful coastal community in the United Kingdom. It has a picturesque quality reminiscent of an earlier time. Dorset is located in south west England. The earliest recorded settlement in the area was around 8000 B.C. and was predominantly along the coastal areas.

With the arrival of Roman conquest of the area in a relatively bloodless coup, Roman influence became evident in the architecture, the use of aqueducts and most importantly, Roman roads, connecting the communities and making travel much easier.

The region is a place of unspoiled beauty, with varied terrain, ranging from the beautiful heritage coast with some of the best beaches in England, to a countryside rich with archaeological treasures amidst its rural villages and gloriously green landscape. Quaint villages dot the landscape as you explore the countryside. In Cerne Abbas, there are houses dating back as far as the 15th century and a 180 foot tall sculpture cut into the chalk downs affectionately called Giant that overlooks the village.

In the current day, Dorset is an incredibly popular tourist destination offering much to those with an appreciation of the outdoors and of history, both of which are in abundance.
